SUMMARY

Hi [First Name],

August brought a security release for Icinga 2 and new CLI options in Director. We also look at what OpsGenie's end of life means for open-source alerting and our CTO wants to know what the community's thinking right now: interests, pain points, general feedback is welcome. Plus what's happening in the community forum.

Happy Reading!

RELEASE OVERVIEW

Security release: v2.16.5 and v2.15.6

Icinga 2 v2.16.5 and v2.15.6 close two security vulnerabilities: one that let an authenticated ApiUser bypass object-level access controls via crafted filters, and one that let a compromised cluster node crash another through unbounded message size. v2.16.5 also fixes an IcingaDB regression from v2.16.0. Check the release announcement and upgrade.

Icinga Director: health checks and deletes from the CLI

Icinga Director v1.11.6 adds a --name option to target health checks at a single sync rule, import source, or job, plus CLI delete actions for both. See the full walkthrough.

OpsGenie EOL: what actually changes

Atlassian ends OpsGenie support on April 5, 2027, folding alerting and on-call into Jira Service Management. We look at the open-source alternatives left standing and what Icinga Notifications can realistically replace today.

Connecting Icinga and Prometheus

Prometheus handles high-frequency metrics, Icinga handles state and notifications. Markus Opolka from NETWAYS walks through the five open-source tools that connect them, including the new Alertmanager-Icinga-Bridge.

COMMUNITY CORNER

Join our next Community Call

Our CTO Eric and our Community Manager Feu are hosting a community call on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at 3 PM CEST (9 AM ET). The topics: what's working in Icinga, what isn't, and where we should focus next.

To keep the discussion productive, only a small group joins live. Submit your topic or question by September 18 and if your topic got selected, we'll get back to you with an invitation. We'll publish a follow-up blog post summarizing what came out of the call, so everyone else is in the loop too.

THIS MONTH IN THE FORUM

PatchMon integration - testers needed

Mattias is building a monitoring-plugins compatible check for PatchMon, so far tested only against Checkmk. Running PatchMon alongside Icinga? Your feedback on the Nagios-compatible mode would help.

Split setup, Redis schema mismatch

Henryy is debugging a split installation - master, DB node, web node - where IcingaDB repeatedly crashes with a Redis schema version mismatch after Director deployments. Still an open thread.

Negative execution times, fixed in 2.14.1

Execution times flipping negative in Icinga Web 2's Check Statistics? This known issue is a timezone/locale bug, fixed in 2.14.1 - a browser refresh works around it until then.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Our annual summer event

Last month, the whole team gathered for our annual summer event. Every department reported on what got done, what was harder than expected, and what's ahead. Hearing what other teams work on is where overlaps show up - and where someone else's experience saves you time. We closed with ice cream and a BBQ.

New Icinga merch

We've unpacked a new print run of Icinga shirts, designed with Nick, winner of our community contest. Also new: a towel and electrolytes - useful after a hot summer day, or after an evening at OSMC. Can't make it this year? Watch our social channels for another shot at merch.
